Mental and behavioral health care problems are all too common. One in four people report they've missed work as a result of work-related stress. Between 28 and 30 percent of the US population has a mental health disorder, substance abuse disorder, or both. Stress is linked to the six leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide.
But despite these statistics, these illnesses are treatable. Knowing the signs and symptoms will better equip all of us to help ourselves and others recover from mental and behavioral health care problems.
