A 10 year old is always yelling at his foster parents. A teen-ager on probation for shoplifting stays out all night with her friends. A seventh grader gets caught destroying school property for the second time in a month. These children, and their families, need help beyond the scope of typical outpatient counseling. They need intensive family outreach services.
Family outreach services, also know as home-based services, is a method of providing mental and behavioral health care treatment to children and adolescents with serious emotional or behavioral problems in the family setting and with family participation. At Behavior Management Systems those services are provided through the Family Pathways Division and are available to the child, their parents or guardian, and any siblings or other household members that meet certain eligibility requirements.
Counselors work in the families’ homes, the childrens’ schools, and in other community locations to make sure these young people get intensive counseling and support services from a variety of service providers. At Behavior Management Systems our program is designed specifically to keep troubled families together through the following services:
- In-home counseling, education and support
- Therapy or other support services in the child's school or other community location
- Case management including coordination with other service providers and agencies
- Suicide intervention
- Crisis stabilization
- Psychiatric assessments and medication when needed
- 24-hour emergency services
